Unbedingt anschauen!!!

He´s become the most buzz-worthy current Reggae artist over the past few years. In the summer, 2007, Collie Buddz´ Columbia Records self-titled debut album stormed the charts entering the Billboard Reggae Chart at first position. The Reggae singjay became an international star when this album then went on to debut across the world at the top of every chart from Japan to Germany. With much of the production coming from Collie himself, he delivered a solid debut with contributions from Supa Dups, Shea Taylor, Bang Out, Screwface, Bobby Konders and Crown N Kah-So-Real to name just a few. Released just a day before US Independence Day, Collie´s debut album could be heard blasting out of car windows from Brooklyn to Kingston all summer long. Critically speaking, Collie´s debut was a monster. Speaking of his first single, an undeniable summer anthem title d, "Come Around," Source Magazine proclaimed,...... read more.... - latest additions - Groundation Irieites interview with the singer from GROUNDATION - Harrison Stafford :
GROUNDATION mix classic roots-reggae with light jazz undertones and contained dub magic.
How did you arrive at this kind of style? Harrison:First of all I have to mention that we don't play any classic roots reggae. We have our own version, which is more. Our sound is of course extremely oriented towards classic roots reggae. But what we have borrowed from jazz and dub enrich it and make it sound somewhat different. I have listened to roots reggae all my life and I know exactly what the classic variety sounds like. I also know the religious background very well, as my parents are members of the Twelve Tribes Of Israel, and I grew up in this setting. Through this I am also spiritually rooted in reggae. That is why it is clear to me what it needs to sound like if it aspires to be different from conventional reggae.
But your record sounds like classic roots-reggae and the differences are only marginal. Harrison:Yes, that is because we recorded everything like in the seventies. Instruments like moog and wind section were all recorded live. We don't have anything digital on our record. We just want to sound like the original. A lot of people in California like this. For them the sound of the seventies was the best reggae! Digital music only brings everything across in ones and zeros, and we just don't like that so much.
Don't you like any "digital reggae" at all? Harrison:I do, but Bob Marley, The Congos - these bands had this certain feeling about them. We want to honour this and are trying to be just as good. For us digital sounds don't penetrate as deep as analogue sounds. But digital sounds are not necessarily bad because of this. They just don't match with our vision of reggae. But we are also not trying to sound like Bob Marley. We have our own flavour. This is above all because we are all also jazz fans. With us Bob Marley meets Miles Davis.
There are people that find your sound too retro and reproach you for giving current reggae trends the cold shoulder. If this is true, is it because you are not aware of them?

CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

- Current announcements -
Midnite time is not counted from daylight but from Midnite... Hailing from St Croix, Virgin Islands
Lead singer Vaughn Benjamin's electrifying voice seems an amalgamation of many great voices in reggae-soulful, chanting, edgy. Vaughn's potent lyrical style and his brother Ron Benjamin's exquisite production, vocals, dub, arrangements, keyboard/bass musical directorship form the nucleus of this musical - rootsy sound, which includes: Christian Molina (drums), Edmund Fieulleteau (guitar), Edwin Byron (guitar) and Ras L (keyboards). Midnite weaves the cultural lyrics of "old school" roots music with modern day experiences to create a unique listening encounter. Roots Reggae - naked and raw is an apt description for Midnite's musical style, in which they forgo the frills of extensive remixes, overdubbing and other musical refinements. "Unpolished" is the title of their debut album which includes such classics as "Don't Move", "Mama Africa", and "Love the Life You Live". Originally released in 1997, while the band was located in Washington, DC. In 1999, Midnite linked up with Wildchild! Records for their second release "Ras Mek Peace". Incredibly, this album was recorded using only two channels and was mastered without any reverb, filtering, compression or equalization. Songs like "Hieroglyphics", in which graffiti is likened to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, showcase the intelligent songwriting that pervades all of Midnite's works. ... read more Jahcoustix At the age of 14 growing up in Kenya, Jahcoustix (Dominik Haas) discovered reggae as the music that touches him the most on the streets of Nairobi. - Aktuelle Neuankündigungen - Stephen Marley Musically early mature - and yet still a late starter. He made his debut with The Melody Makers already at the age of six years old. The song in which he participates, "Children Playing In The Streets", is the first single of the melody tinkerer. In his solo career he is a straggler. His first completely own album, "Mind Control", is only released in 2007 - Stephen Marley is at this time 34 years old. Stephen was born in 1972 as the second son of Bob Marley. In their artist's info the record company writes that Stephen already in younger years completely followed his father and emulated him. This above all reflects in his voice: Some people will remember hearing Stephen for the first time consciously in 1996. At that time he recorded a cover version of "No Woman, No Cry" with the Fugees. Stephen Marley slowly developed to a multi-instrumentalist and thereby remained faithful to the Melody Makers, at whose head brother Ziggy is positioned. His tasks are mostly restricted to singing and playing the guitar - sometimes he writes a song. Together the troop, in which also the sisters Cedella and Sharon participate, collected a total of three Grammy's in the reggae genre: in 1988, 1989 and 1997. Then his talent as a producer becomes dominant. At the beginning there were ideas for the albums of his brothers Damian and Julian. In 1999 the Bob-Marley-Tribute-Album "Chant Down Babylon" followed. Stephen has worked with Erykah Badu, Capleton, Krayzie Bone, Buju Banton and many more. What really proved to be successful was the cooperation with the younger brother Damian. Together with him Stephen produced the albums "Halfway Tree" (2001) and the much acclaimed "Welcome To Jamrock" (2005). Both records creamed off the reggae Grammy. Makes together five golden gramophones - no other reggae artists have been able to take so many home with them. Not even the father, whose shadow still eclipses far above him in spite of the tremendous successes. Stephen already began to work on his solo debut in 2002. Other projects delayed the release of "Mind Control" until 2007. It contains a mixture of classic Roots-Reggae, R'n'B and Hip Hop. With this CD in his luggage he undertakes extensive tours also in Europe. And nevertheless still finds time to produce the follow-up album ' Revelation Pt 1: The Root of Life '. This work was in turn nominated for the GRAMMY 2012 in the category ' best Reggae Album '. This decision will be announced during the GRAMMY event on February 7.8. 2012 - something we can all look forward to. Nneka NNEKA is the daughter of a Nigerian father and a German mother and was born in 1981 in Warri - Nigeria. During her childhood and early teens she lived in Nigeria. She gained her first experiences in singing in the school and church choir, without having a career in the pop business in mind. Only after she moved to the hanseatic city of Hamburg in 1999, where she initially lived in an assisted living group home of the children's home in Hamburg Altona, did she start to sing professionally. The song "Heartbeat" makes Nneka known throughout Europe. Above all in England the single advances to a hit, not lastly because the associated "Chase & Status" remix leaves craters in its wake in the dance floors of the clubs. Nneka advances to becoming an insider's tip in the scene. After Nas, who loans his voice to a further "Heartbeat" remix, the roots rappers rapper Black Thought and Ms. Dynamite also make an appearance as guests. She invites Curse into the studio for his record "Freiheit" and the single "Baby". Nevertheless Germany remains largely unimpressed by Nneka - although she was already playing throughout the Republic before her breakthrough. She heated up the Hamburg Stadtgarten for Sean Paul in 2004, Patrice booked her for his "Nile" tour, also Seeed, Bilal and Gnarls Barkley count on her abilities. And rightfully so, because only on the stage do Nneka's pieces about God, love, heartbreak and politics, especially related to Nigeria and Africa, really come to life. In her texts the singer processes her deepest thoughts and emotions and hardly fears singing about any topic. Tears or similar expressions of emotions are no rarity. Thereby she does not forget about the audience. In spite of the partially heavy material that Nneka sings about in her texts, she is first and foremost an entertainment artist. Her records and appearances are equally as complex as they are versatile. However serious and complex the topics may be, Nneka most often packages them in an entertaining, but never shallow cloak of hip-hop and dub, reggae and soul. The magazine The Spiegel probably summarizes the artist Nneka the best. She has more the "role of an emissary for a better world than as a sexy pop starlet" and thereby without doubt stands in the tradition of her musical role models. Her current album "SOUL IS HEAVY" was released in October 2011 and is the consistent continuation of her musical orientation. We are looking forward to an exceptional artist with her new repertoire at this year's Summerjam Festival.Berlin Boom Orchestra The summer in Berlin often sounds like Kingston/Jamaica. The Berlin Boom Orchestra also supplies the sound for this in winter. The nine members of the band play urban reggae, dancehall & ska as they should be played: With brass section, organ and sunglasses. Unmistakable vocals colour the German language songs. Smooth bass lines and precise, passionate drum and percussion rhythms intermingle with single thread harmonies and melodies. Juicy brass lines create an unmistakable sound, stirring and absolutely danceable. And there is also something for the heart included: Solo's that make the heart melt and lyrics that speak what's on many people's minds: I'm not waiting for the nice life that I may have, I am taking it right now with open hands because I am not following the herd. The Berlin Boom Orchestra quickly had the Berlin ska and reggae scene enthusiastic and they also sent out their feelers to the rest of the republic. Regardless of whether small club or enormous festival - if someone is going to make a BOOM! then it will be the Berlin Boom Orchestra!

latest additions - please welcome Marsimoto WE ALWAYS KNEW IT ! What we have assumed for a long time and is now certain. The CIA and the German intelligence service are hiding something from us: According to optimally informed sources an unidentified flying object ( UFO ) crashed into the Baltic near to Rostock at the turn of the year 2012. As however on the beach in the immediate vicinity of the crash site an illegal HipHop party was being held, with danger to life and limb the party participants were able to stabilize the capsule from sinking, which had the inscription ' Leave me alone - I'm from MARS '. The participants were then able to rescue a little green man with a coincidentally found air mattress and brought him to the shore. This green man was in good shape and was not, as could be expected, somewhat emaciated and dehydrated. Observers attributed this miracle to a green substance, of which large amounts were found in the capsule and which most likely served as food for the green man. To the great astonishment of all party participants the visitor from mars took the microphone of the installed sound system on the beach and rapped in an indecipherable language, which however was quite understandable after a change of the pitch adjustment. Asked by one of the party percipients what his name was the foreign visitor always only answered with: I-MOTO, I-MOTO. As the first morning of the new year 2012 dawned the green man was laying in the arms of a voluptuous blonde, who was continuously whispering the name MARS-I-MOTO into the microphone. We are looking forward to repeating the beach party on the shore of the Fühlinger lake in Cologne at the SUMMERJAM ......... U Roy U-Roy (born Ewart Beckford, 21 September 1942, Jones Town, Jamaica), is a Jamaican musician, also known as The Originator. He is best known as a pioneer of toasting. Calling himself, "your ace from outer space", U-Roy revolutionized the musical style of reggae in 1969. Even though U-Roy was not the first microphone artist, he was the first to gain recognition through recording this style. U-Roy popularized and gained a wider audience for "toasting"; rapping over "versions" of popular songs remixed by King Tubby. Considered one of Jamaica's first Deejay stars, "U-Roy raised the art of toasting to new heights. He didn't just spit a few phrases here and there, he rode the riddim from the starting gate to the last furlong". U-Roy working with Duke Reid created a "version" of the Paragon's "Wear You to the Ball" which became the first "toast" record to make an impact in 1969. He recorded Dynamic Fashion Way (his first successful release) for Keith Hudson in 1969, and then went on to work with almost every major producer on the island: Lee Perry, Peter Tosh, Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, Sonia Pottinger, Rupie Edwards, Alvin Ranglin and Lloyd Daley. U-Roy's success continued throughout the 1970s, perhaps most famously with the album Dread in a Babylon, produced by "Prince" Tony Robinson and propelled by the album's skank smash hit "Runaway Girl". The album cover featured an iconic picture of U-Roy disappearing in a thick cloud of cannabis smoke while holding a chalice and included the song "Chalice in the Palace", which in a satirical manner he imagines smoking ganja with Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom in Buckingham Palace. U-Roy had become one of Jamaica's biggest stars by the early 1980s, also garnering significant acclaim in the United Kingdom. Irie Révoltés Founded in 2000 the Irie Révoltés have now already been rocking the stage since 10 years. Whether in the clubs or at festivals - nobody leaves the shows without being soaked in sweat - at more than 400 concerts from Heidelberg to Prague and from the Anti-G8-Summit in Rostock to Bordeaux. Under their own steam and with the tremendous support of Irie-Massiv the Irie Révoltés have played themselves onto the main stages of the large European festivals. The appearance at the 2011 Summerjam was one of the highlights of the festival weekend, and we are very happy to be able to experience the band again at the 27th. festival, this time on the REDSTAGE.

4 more artists for SUMMERJAM 2012 Amadou & Mariam Both the blind singers from Mali have developed a world-wide career with their unique music. They had their first successes in Paris. Mariam Doumbia and Amadou Bagayoko sing about the love for each other, but also about the love of music. The couple have been living and working together since nearly 30 years. In the middle of the 70's Amadou played with the Ambassadeurs du Motel, one of the many bands in Bamako, the musically very lively capital of Mali. In the middle of the 80's the young married couple made their way to the rich neighbouring country Ivory Coast. Here there are studios and clubs, which Mali does not have to offer. Amadou & Mariam record several cassettes, which make them famous throughout West Africa. They have worked long and hard for the enthusiasm that is stimulated by their sensitive music. What was always important for them was also the openness towards other musicians. They have often performed together with stars like Sergent Garcia or Manu Chao. Amadous & Miriams songs about love get under the skin. They tell their own story. Two people who share the same fate and who have nevertheless found great happiness. Manu Chao has for a long time been an avowed fan of Amadou and Mariam and decisively co-influenced the sound of the CD ' Dimanche à Bamako '. Manu Chao travelled through Mali with the couple and recorded a part of the album there as producer. It is surely his influence that made the CD more airy and invites to dance more than the predecessors. A fascinating symbiosis of the West African sounds of Amadou & Mariam and the Latino mix of Manu Chao. A short time ago AMADOU & MARIAM performed as the opening act on tours of U2 and COLDPLAY. In February 2012 the 6. album will be released with ' special guests' like: JAKE from SCISSOR SISTERS, SANTIGOLD, TV ON THE RADIO, AMP FIDDLER, THEOPHILUS LONDON and others.... Natty Change won’t come in a day, sings Natty on his song “Change". The singer from North London has long since swapped his hoodie for dreadlocks, and possesses a thoughtful take on what it is to be young in the inner city today. Using sounds from around the world he sums up modern Britain with soulful accuracy. His first single from his upcoming EP of the same name, Change, is built on a classic Reggae groove. It paints a positive picture of a young man’s reflections faced with a world consumed by individual and global changes. “There’s a new breeze, I can feel a change coming in the air,”sings Natty, yet he brings perspective and depth to his concerns when he writes that “seasons change, so today I plant my seed away / make it rain, so tomorrow my seed will see a brighter day.” With a mother from Lesotho, the tiny kingdom that sits within the borders of South Africa, and an English father of Italian descent, Natty’s intelligent music break the mould: he moves effortlessly from Reggae on “Change” to West African horns on the hypnotic “JJ (Don’t Go),” a devastating and timely account of a young boy affected by gun violence. Other songs on the EP include a beautiful ambient cover of Armand van Helden’s “U Don’t Know Me” and “SS I Love You,” a spacey ballad recorded with The Rebel Ship, Natty’s band comprised of a core group of musicians and friends including Bear, his longtime collaborator and guitar player, and Jahmel, a bass and percussion player with Reggae roots. Of course vocal duties are handled by Natty! After several years of touring, Natty took some time “off” to travel, explore new cultures and sounds, spending a lot of time in Africa, inspiring him to return with, Change, his new EP scheduled to be released on September 20, 2011, the same day that kicks off his first US tour (supporting Ziggy Marley). A UK and European tour will follow. A new album is in the works (Natty has already recorded half of the album) and will be released in the summer of 2012. Danakil The French band DANAKIL are named after one of the hottest regions in the world, the Danakil desert in North-Eastern Africa. With their album "Microclimate" that was released in 2007 the band finally achieved the breakthrough in France and is now one of the best live acts of the country. During their first tour in Germany in December 2011 DANAKIL was able to provide evidence of this quality, and the audience and critics were thrilled by their performance. There will be encores at the SUMMERJAM 2012
Jamaram The road story continues! 11 years JAMARAM with more than 1,000 live shows in Germany, Europe and the world and no end in sight! The gig monsters from the south of the republic are ON THE ROAD again, and together with their fans look forward to the usual happy escalation in the clubs and at festivals. Apart from Reggae, Ragga & Dancehall this time there will also be a lot of High End Dub (tracks from the current album "JAMARAM in DUB"). In addition there will be a full load of Balkan Beats, HipHop, Socca, Afro and Latin styles - like no other German band JAMARAM have the gift of mixing these music genres and presenting them in a fulminant live show.
