DUB INC They have been bringing a fresh wind into the European Reggae scene since 1997. Their different origins and the associated musical influences of the individual members is what makes their mutual sound so special. The band that moves between a wild mixture of Reggae, Dancehall, Kabylia and World Music, is shaped by the voices of Bouchkour and Komlan, who are equally as different as they are complementary. Whether they sing in French, English or Kabylia, their universal message that revolves around the importance of the unification of cultures always hits its mark. With „Paradise“ they are now presenting their fifth album. Repeated proof for grandiose musical fireworks and honest texts that are close to reality. One can readily accept the manifest of this band: „Regardless of which political direction our country takes, we produce honest music and through our texts reveal social injustices, irrespective of possibly associated reprisals“.
JOHNNY OSBOURNE alongside Lone Ranger
He likes to call himself the „Godfather of Rub-A-Dub“. In his more than 40 year career the Jamaican has managed to survive all the trends in the development of Reggae music. With his warm and clear voice and the mixture of Rocksteady, Reggae and Soul he is still today electrifying. Producers like CoxsoneDodd (Studio One), Bobby Digital or Sly & Robbie have accompanied him and shaped him. His album „TruthOrRights“ is until today a milestone and an absolute „must“ in every music collection. Hits like „Icecream Love“, „Water Pumpin“ or „Jah Promise“ have been played up and down by the well-known radio stations from Jamaica over London through to New York. In 1996 the Fugees successfully covered „Ready Or Not“, and on his current album „Jah No Partial“ Major Lazer samples a piece from „Mr. Marshall“. Quality usually wins in the end! And one thing is for sure: when he starts singing the legendary „Buddy Bye“ at his first Summerjam appearance the crowd will cheer him on with „Oooh, Yeah“. At the Summerjam 2014 the legendary Studio One DJ LONE RANGER will be part of the show. Accompanied by a top ranking band the two of them will set off musical fireworks.
NAAMAN The young Breton is in the process of stirring up the French Reggae scene, and with his album „Deep Rockers, Back A Yard“ he has presented a debut at a remarkably high level. The singer was supported by his beat producer and DJ FATBABS, as well as his band YOUNG KHA, and during the production was able to count on genre figureheads such as Sam Clayton (Toots& The Maytals) and Stephen Stewart (Burning Spear) and Sly Dunbar. He achieved a lively album with melody rich and authentically warm Modern-Roots sounds, which are subtly interspersed with contributions by FATBABs shaped by HipHop and Streetculture. Naaman embodies the young French Reggae scene like no other, and he will bring the Summerjam crowd to dance with his first concert in Germany with this mixture of Raggamuffin and HipHop - guaranteed.
The father Jamaican, the mother Dominican. „A good combination like rice and peas“, insists Gappy Ranks, who grew up in the London district of Harleden. Roughly 3 years ago he brought the lively UK-Reggae scene back onto the map. Whereas his first album was based on Roots Reggae Riddims, his second nearly exclusively on Dancehall tunes, with his 3. album „Shining Hope“ he discovered his musical centre. His songs are convincing: modern and lyrically diverse and with a facet-rich range of Rootsreggae, HipHop and the current Dancehall. Already in the year 2011 he presented a show at the Summerjam that was celebrated by the fans, then in the warm-up act of Romain Virgo. So certainly something to look forward to!
